The Bed Heel Elevator is designed to help with blood flow as well as pressure care for the under calf; as is made of foam and shaped to support the calf comfortably.
The Bed Heel Elevator can be used with patients positioned in long sitting, supine or on their side. Position the patient’s calf in the centre of the Bed Heel Elevator with the patient’s heel suspended in the air above the mattress. If required, a cotton sheet can be draped over the Bed Heel Elevator to prevent patient sweating.
The Bed Heel Elevator can be used under each calf for bilateral disorders. When the device is used with patients unable to mobilise their own ankle, a carer or nurse should periodically reposition the elevator up and down the calf to facilitate blood flow and ensure an even spread of pressure over the back of the leg.
The Foot Drop Support can be used in conjunction with the Bed Heel Elevator; it secures to the Bed Heel Elevator with velcro, and likewise has a removable nylon, washable, cover. The Foot Drop works to ensure the patient’s ankle remains in a position close to 90 degrees, preventing excessive joint stiffness. It also helps with the Bed Heel Elevator to prevent pressure sores.
